Lee Morgan lives on a woodland property with a homesteading community in the mountains in Tasmania where he is learning and applying permaculture principles and moving towards greater self-sufficiency. Living in a cabin with no electricity and garnering all his hot water from solar and wood from his own property is only the beginning but is all a deep part of where this course is coming from. This undertaking to walk his talk, intertwined with his twenty years of practice in Traditional Witchcraft places Lee in a position to speak to this topic both in a practical and esoteric level. No matter where you are on the long journey home to belonging amid the web of life, whether your situation is close to or far from the natural world, this course will take your hand and lead you deeper. Lee is the author of a number of books on Traditional Witchcraft including: A Deed Without A Name: Unearthing the Legacy of Traditional Witchcraft, Standing and Not Falling: A Sorcerous Primer in Thirteen Moons, and Sounds of Infinity.
“I took Lee Morgan’s “Riddle of Place” course in fall 2019, and it had an immense, transformative effect on my craft. It was the medicine I needed at that time and I continue to work through the material because, as with all of Lee’s work, it is dense and rich. This was not a barrier, though, as Lee makes the course material approachable and breaks it down into actionable steps. If you are looking for support in more deeply connecting with the spirit of place, with the forces and allies of your bioregion, this course is for you.” -Orion Evenstar
“In the fields of sorcery and witchcraft, one can become easily overwhelmed with all the options of study and direction. I’ve taken numerous courses, read many books, but few have had the impact that Lee Morgan’s “The Riddle of Place” course has had on me. With a focus on animism and interrelation, I would suggest this course for any practitioner, whether they’re just starting out on the Crooked Path, or have had years of experience. This class gave me the tools and techniques to dive into a much deeper relationship with the bioregion of which I’m a part and that has only strengthened my spiritual and magical practices. Lee’s years of experience shine through in each week’s lessons and the corresponding assignments helped to open my eyes and my senses to the great web in which I live and work and how that helps to strengthen my sorcerous pursuits. Lee is an attentive tutor, with the innate motivation to help you not only learn from experience but to take that experience and wisdom to help you build a stronger relationship with the land of which you’re a part. Through this course, you will find the Riddle of Place not only provides answers and solutions to pertinent questions of our broken, modern time…it will help you find Home.” -Josh Simonds, www.JoshSimonds.com

The Hearth is the focus of the human community and our mastery of fire has arguably shaped everything that makes humans different to other animals. Whether it be a fire with a cave around it, or a heat source with a house around it, this has been the locale and focal point for human society ever since we might properly be termed humans. For this reason a lot of traditional lore focuses on the house and hearth.
Here we will digest the information of the week before and will look at why our tradition works with St Brigid as a guardian, why Virtue is important and increased with practices that are passed down from mouth to mouth and hand to hand. In honour of this I release a video that shows live footage of me blessing a fire. After this I repeat the prayer again so that people can receive it and the Virtue that is passed down from it. This demonstrates part of what is powerful about traditional or folk practices.
Making magic with food is either a kindly or a sneaky form of sorcery, depending who you do it on. Both drinks and food stuffs have been used as mediums in magic throughout folkloric practice. Here I supply knowledge of such things, and also reflect on ways that this ability to start a contagious effect could have power as we assume our positions and find our powers to struggle for protection of our ecosystems and way of life.
Here we will look at the principle of inoculation and how this can be used to protect allies who are not witches, such as children living in your home, or people we wish to protect in trying times. We also look at hair magic in folklore and why it is important to understand the power of witch’s hair and its ability to attract. Any questions that come up over these past two weeks will be answered in a live video.
Folk Doctoring – a practice I have developed and partly redeveloped, over many years of research and experience- has taught me a lot about the animal intelligence of the body. We talk about the way involuntary motions of the body can be read as communication from your fetch and turn our attention to them. We also explore animal omens, objects of sorcery and ways to turn them into an idol that we then use to offer Fat to our fetch in animal form, which we will begin to do.
After a week of offering Fat to your fetch we will explore the practice of using ritual and movement to experience or deepen your experience of turning into that animal. Here we will talk about skin-turning and I will gather questions to answer in a live video.
This week we will look at the daemon. Whilst part of a witch is beast, part of us is also angel – as Lord Byron lamented. Unlike the fetch form, this body is far older. Witches are mythologised, and believed by other witches, to be something else again beyond a standard human. Depending on the tradition you will get a different story about this, but Traditional Witchcraft tends to believe there is something else above and beyond the human condition that witches partake of. Whether or not this is seen as the truth for all humans or not is a question that varies between traditions. It is safe to say though that the Witch Fire that is spoken of belongs to this source. In our tradition, these entities communicate artistically, through music, poetry and colour, with the black, red, white and green as the primary notes, though there are others in the middle such as blue and golden.
Here we will look at moving around the colour essence of the various serpents, who can be seen as a parent of daemons. This will include curative material, where witches can address what colours they are demonically gifted with, and which ones they could benefit from improving and then feed themselves at the right phase of the moon, with the appropriate colours.
We explore death symbolism in traditional craft, talk about its relationship to initiation, and how this relates to similar processes in so-called shamanic cultures. Foremothers and ancestor wardens are also discussed and we are encouraged to think about what sort of Otherworldly senses were passed down to us by the dead?
Here we are offered some thoughts about the way we perceive the Otherworld. The term ‘Second Sight’ has made a lot of people think they don’t have this sense, when most of the time they might have Second Hearing, smelling, tasting, or touching. Or, what I like to call The Noticing. There are thoughts offered here for observing your own skills and working out what your strongest muscle is going to be. A short Working is offered where you anoint your fetch idol at their eyes, ears, nose, mouth, or belly/paws, depending on which area you feel your strength is in. This feeds the fetch in preparation for future work. Once again, questions are answered during a live video.
Flight. It is something we are taught to think of when it comes to witches, typically on a broomstick. Many of us say we haven’t experienced it, or don’t know how to experience it, when in truth flight is as different between witches as the Sight is. Here we are going to draw together all of this information that we have accrued about ourselves to better understand not just how to fly, but how to get the most out of such experiences. We need to consider things like:
This will effect the way in which you perceive flight.
All of these things will be crucially important to getting the most out of this experience. Getting the most out of this is not just something experienced for ourselves either, getting the most potent ability to throw your consciousness across the cosmos gives you more power in the world. And at this time in history, of all times, this is a very important thing.
Here we discuss the different approaches to what is often called ‘astral travel’ or ‘leaving the body’. Most of the time this is the area that you don’t get much help with in books on witchcraft. Here we will consider a few methods of astral travel which we will then add a well-fed fetch to and proper preparation of our Noticing. We will talk about finding tradition via Flight, finding whitened threads with spirits who would like to redden them, drawing out threads from our bones to connect to the spider-web of worldwide witch flight.
